Guest: Chuck Marohn – Strong Towns
Yes, this episode quickly follows on the heels of my conversation with Raul Avelar from the IIHS. But, there are so many great safety conversations getting ready to stack up that I wanted to make sure we get them all in this summer.
My guest today is Chuck Marohn from Strong Towns.
Over the years, Chuck and I have explored many topics about cities and “strong towns,” and I felt it was important to include him in our conversation about safety as we continue to explore what is making cyclists – and pedestrians – vulnerable.
Of course, as my husband Brian says – we ARE vulnerable. Cars are bigger and 
faster, drivers are distracted, impatient, and angrier, and speed limits are ignored. So it is no wonder that fewer and fewer riders taking to the roads.
What Chuck has developed – the term he has coined actually – is a concept called “stroads” – that streets and roads are actually two separate things.
Chuck sees streets as the platform for where we live, work, and recreate. Roads, on the other hand, are the connective pipelines between our cities.
